Frequently Asked Questions
What time is check in and check out?
Check in starts at 9:00am Monday - Sunday. Because so many people like to go tubing on the last day of their reservation, there is no check out time. Generally, we would like to have everyone checked out by 7:00pm.
Are there showers on site? If so, what is the additional cost to use them?
Yes, hot showers are available for $1.00 for 4 minutes in both the campground and the tube rental area.

How do I "add-on" to someone else's group?
You can call our office (715-247-3305) and tell us you would like to add on to someone's camping reservation. If you are making a camping reservation online at AppleRiver.com, fill out your camping information and then type the full name of the other camping reservation you would like to add on to in the box that reads, "is there a group you would like to add on to?".
How many people can be on a site?
Our rates are per person and not per site. Our camping sites vary in size and we do our best to accommodate any size group you bring.
Are there discounts for children?
Children 5 years of age or younger can camp for free. We do also offer special rates for children between the ages of 6 and 11. Those rates are only valid between Sunday - Thursday. Call for more information.
Are there grills or fire pits available to use?
We do have grills, but a limited supply. Depending on the size of the camping crowd, we cannot guarantee that there will be one available for you to use. We highly encourage campers to bring their own. We do have fire pits available at most sites.
Is there a parking/car fee?
Yes, we do charge $10.00 per car Thursday - Saturday and $5.00 Sunday - Thursday upon arrival.
Can we bring our own firewood?
St. Croix County has been under a firewood ban since 2009. This means that campers cannot bring in their own firewood. This ban is necessary because firewood can harbor many kinds of invasive pests and diseases harmful to Wisconsin's trees. There is sanitized firewood available to purchase in our camp store. Please check out the Wisconsin DNR website for more information about the firewood ban.
What is your cancellation policy?
Regular camping reservations canceled before seven days prior to arrival are subject to a 50% refund policy. Reservations canceled within seven days of arrival cannot be refunded. However, all money left on the deposit for a canceled camping reservation can be transferred to another camping arrival date in the future without any additional fees. We can also more your entire reservation to a different date later in the season for no additional fee. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation.
What is your dog policy?
We do allow dogs on our campground. All dog owners must make a $50 deposit upon arrival. Dog owners will receive their deposit back if they comply with all of our campground dog policy rules, which our outlined below.
- Good behavior is required. Dogs of any breed that are hostile or aggressive will be asked to leave the campground, along with their owners. No refunds upon eviction.
- Bring the leash. Dogs must be kept on leashes no longer than 6 feet when outside their owner's vehicles or rental units.
- Dogs are not allowed inside River's Edge cabins or restaurant at any time.
- DO NOT leave a dog unattended. Unattended dogs will be surrendered to local animal control.
- Remember manners. Constant barking bothers other campers. If your pet is too vocal, you'll need to find other accommodations.
- Dog owners must properly dispose of animal's excrement.
- Dogs are not permitted in the Apple River at any time.
Failure to abide by these rules may result in a surrendering of your deposit and/or the camper(s) being evicted from the campground.
How old does a child have to be in order to tube down the river?
River's Edge does not have an agree restriction for floating down the Apple River. However, we very much encourage children under the age of 12 to float down the river Sundays through Thursdays and non-holidays due to large tubing crowd sizes. Regarding safety, as a parent/guardian it is up to you to make your best judgment as to whether you think your child is able to float down the river. The river ranges in depth from 2 feet to 6+ feet. Life Jackets are available for a $1 rental. River's Edge does reserve the right to refuse service to ANYONE to best ensure safety of any customers.
Can we bring our own tubes?
We highly discourage campers bringing their own tubes. Most tubes that are store bought are not made for the rougher conditions of a river, such as rocks and tree branches, and can pop more easily. River's Edge rents more durable and reliable inner tubes. If you are insistent on bringing your own tube, River's Edge chargers a $10.00 admission fee per person that covers access to our facilities and a shuttle ride back at the end of your tubing ride.
How big are your tubes?
We have small and large tubes that can accommodate tubers of any size!
What are cooler tubes and how much do they cost?
You can rent a cooler tube for $12.50 Monday - Thursday and $15.50 Friday - Sunday. Our cooler tubes can fit various sized coolers, some even contain baskets for smaller coolers. We do encourage you to bring your own coolers, but we do have a limited number of coolers here that you are able to rent as well. Please remember that we do not allow any Styrofoam or glass on the river.
Can we tie the tubes together?
Yes, you can! River's Edge sells twine that you are able to purchase for .25 a piece (10 feet) or you can buy three pieces (10 feet each) for $1.00. We highly recommend using our twine instead of using your own. The twine we use here at River's Edge is biodegradable and won't harm the river. However, if you do want to use your own, we ask you to please not use plastic or any other materials that could harm the river.
How long is the tube ride?
The tube ride ranges anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 hours on average.
How deep is the river?
The river ranges from anywhere between 2 feet to 4 feet for most of the ride. There are some pockets which are 6 to 7 feet or more. The Apple River is controlled by a damn, so the water depth stays consistent throughout the tubing season, ensuring that no matter how much or how little rain, we will always be open for business!
How does the shuttle work?
All tubers who float at River's Edge get a free shuttle ride back to our tubing/camping area after the tube ride is over. Tubers will get in the Apple River at our park, float approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours, exit the river after the rapids, and follow the River's Edge Exit Signs which direct you up a set of stairs to the Dairy Queen in Somerset. We pick up at the Dairy Queen, so grab a tasty treat while you wait! Our shuttle runs approximately every 15 minutes.
